Are you ready to own the testing strategy for complex, integrated technology platforms? FOSS develops the world’s leading analytical solutions for the global food and agriculture industries – instruments that combine hardware, software, and IT infrastructure to help customers improve food quality and optimize production.

As our Head of Solution Testing, you’ll set the direction for end-to-end validation of these solutions. While our products include physical instruments, the heart of this role lies in the software and infrastructure that power them. You’ll build the governance, standards, and culture that ensure every release meets our quality bar – and that our customers get seamless, reliable experiences.

What you’ll do

Lead and grow the team

• Manage and mentor the Solution Test team, including recruitment, performance reviews, and career development.
• Coach Solution Testers and foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and technical growth – particularly around test automation.

Set testing strategy and standards

• Define the solution testing strategy and methodology for our integrated hardware/software systems.
• Establish testing standards, templates, and best practices that ensure consistency across projects.
• Review and approve test strategies, test suites, and plans created by Solution Testers, ensuring rigorous coverage and alignment with agile ways of working.

Drive automation and process improvement

• Lead initiatives to increase automated test coverage.
• Evaluate and adopt modern automation frameworks and tools. Improve defect management workflows within Azure DevOps.

Manage risk and communicate quality

• Analyze quality trends and risk areas across the department. Build dashboards and metrics that give stakeholders clear visibility into release readiness.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders on overall solution quality.

Collaborate across R&D

• Work closely with Project Managers and Product Owners to plan QA resourcing across New Product Development projects, ensuring agile teams have the right testing expertise at the right time.

What success looks like in your first year:

You and your manager will agree on specific targets during onboarding. Broadly, we expect you to:

• Significantly increase automated regression coverage (API, UI, and system level) integrated into deployment pipelines.
• Reduce the team’s reliance on manual regression testing for releases.
• Establish reliable quality tracking and defect management in Azure DevOps, giving the department a clear picture of where quality stands at any time.

What we’re looking for

You’re an experienced testing leader who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on understanding of modern QA practices. You care about the customer experience and understand how software integrates with physical products.

Must-haves

• Strong people management skills, with experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers – you know how to build a high-performing team and create an environment where people do their best work.
• Proven track record leading testing teams and setting technical direction for complex hardware/software solutions.
• Deep understanding of the full test landscape – from unit and integration tests to system and end-to-end automated tests – and the ability to review strategies crafted by Solution Testers to prevent redundancy and gaps.
• Hands-on experience with test management (preferably Azure DevOps)
• Working knowledge of modern test automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or comparable tools for UI and API testing).

Nice-to-haves

• A relevant test certification, such as ISTQB Advanced or Expert Level.
• Background in regulated industries or environments where traceability and compliance matter.
