Explore the benefits of an inline analytical solution in a rendering production

The protein content of final products from rendering will always vary, but with effective segregation, batches can be made to match customers’ exact need for protein content. Learn how Italian Avicoop has used NIR in-line analyzers in their rendering production process.

For optimizing the value of the final meal product, an accurate measurement of protein is essential. Knowing the protein information as well as information about fat, moisture and ash are important for ensuring an optimal production process.

The information is also important for product declaration purpose. Tests can be performed during processing and on the finished meal products. Advantages of in-line analyzes include: Ensuring that the right protein content is reached in the final blend of meal, higher yield in processing and improved brand recognition leading to more sales from improved final product quality and consistency.

Insights add value
The Avicoop rendering facility has three production lines: Feather meal, poultry meal and blood meal. Each line has the capacity of 6-12 tons/hour of raw material and at the end of each production line, after the grid, a ProFoss™ is installed to scan and measure the final meal product. The whole process can be followed in the control room, where the manager can monitor content of fat, moisture, ash and protein in the meal products.

Via a sample collector, the finished product can also be taken for testing using a FOSS NIR bench analyzer. Put in a sample cup, the product can be tested for fat, moisture, protein, ash and color.

The advantages of using the FOSS analyzers in the rendering industry:

  • Improved process control
  • Improved quality and consistency
  • Improved productivity and yield increase
  • Final product certification
