ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing mechanical components—often molded plastic parts—for our next-generation analytical instruments. You’ll work across the full development cycle, from early concept and prototyping to final production, ensuring robust, manufacturable, and user-centered solutions.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and cross-functional team, working closely with colleagues in Business Development, Front-End Innovation, UI/UX, Supply Chain, and Production. Your work will be anchored in FOSS’ strategic roadmap and contribute directly to our mission of sustainable innovation.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Take a high degree of ownership, in developing instruments
• Translate user needs and high-level requirements into mechanical solutions
• Create early prototypes and validate design concepts
• Ensure manufacturability and robustness through tolerance analysis and design principles
• Collaborate with toolmakers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to finalize production-ready designs
• Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes and product quality

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical product development
• Proven track record in finalizing parts for production
• Strong proficiency in 3D/2D CAD design (preferred Autodesk Inventor)
• Deep understanding of DfA, DfM, and DfS principles
• Experience in designing plastic parts for products
• Fluent in English

It's a great plus if you have:

• Knowledge of injection molding and tooling design.
• Experience with FEA/CAE simulation tools.
• Familiarity with material selection and qualification (metals, glass, thermoplastics, elastomers).
• Skilled in prototyping and additive manufacturing.
• Understanding of standards and regulations (ISO, CE, food/medical compliance).
