Join FOSS as one of our five Corporate Lean Partners (FOSS Flow Partners) and play a vital role in strengthening how we develop products in R&D—empowering our people and delivering even more value to our customers.
The job
As a member of the collaborative team of five FOSS Flow Partners, you will report directly to the SVP of R&D and work closely with the R&D leadership team. In this role, you will serve as a strategic sparring partner and hands-on change leader. Your contributions will focus on:
- Defining FOSS Flow for R&D : Translate Lean principles into clear R&D ways of working (strategy, portfolio, product development, and daily execution) and co-develop the FOSS Flow direction together with the FOSS Flow committee and the Flow Partner team
- Partnering with R&D Leadership : Support R&D leaders and key interfaces (e.g., Product Management, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial) in learning, adopting, and sustaining FOSS Flow across end-to-end value streams
Your primary responsibilities
As a FOSS Flow Partner dedicated to R&D, you will enable measurable improvements in how we discover, develop, and industrialize products—from idea to launch. You will help set direction, assess maturity, and coach leaders and teams to implement FOSS Flow in practice. Working closely with decision-makers, you will develop fit-for-purpose systems and tools, and ensure alignment with business priorities and customer value.
Your role will involve:
- Strategy and deployment: Co-create and deploy the R&D FOSS Flow roadmap (targets, initiatives, governance), facilitate leadership routines, and track progress using clear measures (e.g., lead time, predictability, quality, and engagement)
- Systems, tools, and standard work: Develop and embed practical Lean systems for R&D (visual management, problem solving, portfolio flow, decision cadences, and continuous improvement routines) and integrate them into existing governance and processes
- Capability building: Co-develop and continuously improve leadership onboarding and coaching programs, and build Lean capability in R&D through training, facilitation, and on-the-job coaching of leaders, managers, and teams
- Community and scaling: Strengthen the FOSS Flow community in and around R&D by sharing practices, enabling cross-site learning, and supporting leaders with next steps and target end-states for their areas
Your skills and qualifications
We are looking for a leader who brings strong Lean expertise, curiosity, and empathy—and who can translate principles into practical change in an R&D environment.
Our ideal candidate has:
- Proven experience designing and executing transformation from a low maturity baseline (strategy deployment, operating system, and capability building)
- Strong hands-on Lean experience in product development/R&D (e.g., value stream mapping, visual management, A3/problem solving, continuous improvement, and coaching leaders and teams)
- Experience from a complex, global organization (e.g., OEM/industrial, medtech, food/agri-tech, or similar) with distributed R&D and cross-functional stakeholder management
- Consulting background is a plus—especially if you enjoy going deep and creating sustainable change by working directly with leaders and teams
Key personal attributes:
- Exceptional interpersonal and change management skills
- Proven ability to adapt to different needs across the organization and influence without formal authority—acting with integrity, curiosity, and a strong sense of partnership
- Strong communication, facilitation, and visualization skills to align priorities and drive collaboration
- A coaching mindset, with the ability to build trust and empower teams to reach their full potential
