Head of Electronics
R&D
Nils Foss Allé 1
3400 Hillerød
Denmark
Do you want to lead a team of electronics and embedded software specialists, own the electronics platform that new analytical instruments are built on, and thereby shape the future of analytics for better food? Then read on.
At FOSS, we are driven by a strong sense of purpose, and we hope you are too. A fast-growing world population means that global food production will have to increase by 60% by 2050 to meet demand. We want to come up with smarter ways to make the best use of agricultural resources, and to help eliminate food waste.
What you will be doing
We are looking for a Head of Electronics to lead 13 R&D specialists in electronics hardware and embedded software. As our instrument portfolio evolves, we are strengthening how these capabilities are shared across products. You will play a central role in increasing platform reuse, improving development efficiency, and establishing clear governance across teams and projects. Your responsibilities will span three areas: leading the electronics and embedded software team, owning the modular electronics platform for new instruments, and representing electronics in cross-functional decisions across the organization. The ideal candidate sets clear priorities, asks the right technical questions, and creates conditions for specialists to do their best work. You will report to the Director of Technology Innovation and join the R&D Technology Innovation leadership team.
As Head of Electronics, your main tasks will be centered around people, platform and process:
- Leading the team by developing specialists and future leaders and aligning the department with FOSS's organizational framework.
- Owning the electronics platform by keeping the governance model alive in practice, including lifecycle checkpoints, and ensuring decision making and review practices.
- Assessing architectural trade-offs in electronics and embedded software, challenging estimates and spotting technical risk when needed.
- Driving change in how we work by continuously improving the platform development process and the electronics part of the R&D development process while bringing stakeholders along.
- Planning capacity and developing competences by balancing project demand against the capacity of a specialist team over a long horizon, identifying single-person dependencies and building data-driven cases for staffing and competence development purposes.
Your stakeholders will include project and program management, procurement and supply chain, production, quality, HR and R&D leadership. Many important results depend on people outside your own department, so building alliances and arguing from other functions' perspectives will be part of your everyday work.
What we hope to see you bring
We expect you to hold at least a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering, embedded software engineering or a similar field. A master's degree is an advantage.
You bring experience in people leadership and team management, and you have led electronics development in a product or platform context. You understand modular design, interface management and platform or architecture governance, and you can connect technical choices with process, quality, supply chain and project needs. Experience with process design, change management, and facilitating meetings or workshops is important, because the role requires you to build alignment across specialists and stakeholders.
You have an analytical mindset and see how technical architecture, process and organization connect, and how a change in one place affects the rest.
You communicate with ease across audiences, from deep technical discussions with specialists to concise decision papers for management and clear messages to the wider organization.
You are collaboration minded, delegate with trust and take pride in developing others through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
It is considered an advantage if you have:
- Led development that combines electronics hardware and embedded software.
- Familiarity with PCB layout processes and PCBA test methods.
- Knowledge of supply chain considerations and electronic component lifecycle management
