Meet Mads, Assistant in Concept Development

Discover how Mads from Concept Development, turns theory into practice as he assists in the design of new instruments. Mads holds a bachelor’s degree in Design and Innovation from DTU, and works at FOSS as part of his gap year before starting on his Master’s degree. In addition, Mads explains how he has gone from making predefined tasks to assist in various project groups.

Student assistant

We have student assistants working within many different study areas and in many departments throughout the organisation, from marketing and communication to concept development, logistics and quality. You name it. As a student assistant, you will participate in the daily work in collaboration with your colleagues. You may be assigned to a specific project or assist in solving daily work tasks on a more general level. This way you get to explore FOSS as a possible future workplace after your studies.

Your weekly working hours are agreed with your manager, and we are of course flexible in relation to your studies. You can get an overview of the available student assistant jobs on the ‘Work at FOSS’ page, or you can send an unsolicited application from the same page.

Meet Line – HR Student assistant

Line is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Psychology at CBS, and works 15 hours a week as student assistant in HR&Com. Line lives in Nørrebro, Copenhagen.

Turning theory into practice

Line’s job involves assisting the HR partner’s work in all steps from managing and editing job postings, to personality tests to the final recruitment. Moreover, she has assisted the Communication department in employer branding activities. Working with these tasks provides Line with a holistic view of the HR function. Line’s theoretical knowledge of Psychology, Change Management and Organizational Development clearly benefits her work, as it enables her to understand how people work, and why people behave the way, they do.

High degree of responsibility

Line believes student assistants are assigned a great deal of responsibility and adds she appreciates her manager’s responsiveness towards her ideas. Line explains:
"We have many employees and student assistants from DTU, so I suggested that we increased the awareness of FOSS among students from other universities as well. A close colleague of mine supported the idea, so we ended up agreeing with the manager to have FOSS represented at CBS Career fair – the fair turned out to be a huge success in terms of creating awareness about FOSS."

Innovative and informal culture

Line finds it exciting to work in a place where innovation thrives, and where great diversity exists among employees. Yet she still finds the atmosphere to be informal and down-to-earth. “People are in general very kind and friendly, and often up for a casual conversation”, Line says. FOSS also occasionally takes the initiative to plan different sporting events. “Recently, I took part in a running race. It was great fun to compete against my colleagues”, Line states excited. Besides running, Line enjoys attending the weekly yoga class at the FOSS gym.

Meet Madalina, Student assistant in Market Management

Meet Madalina from Market Management, who prepare reports, KPI’s and marketing collaterals. Madalina studies Marketing and Brand Management at Lund University, and explains how her job allows her to explore other areas of the marketing umbrella. Moreover, she emphasizes the inclusive and open-minded culture in FOSS.

Get an internship

As an intern, you get a great opportunity to put your academic skills to good use. In return, we benefit from the energy and input from young people who may think about familiar problems in new ways.

At FOSS, an internship normally lasts one semester, but we also offer shorter periods. We plan the details as we go along.

Project, Thesis or Ph.D.

If you are looking for a case study for a semester project, thesis or a Ph.D., we would like to collaborate with you. This way, you get the opportunity to connect your studies with a real-world business case, and we get access to new knowledge and theories from the academic world.

At FOSS we have a compensation scheme that is aligned with the ECTS point system. The compensation depends on the amount of ECTS points gained when the project has been completed.

Meet Clément – Ph.D. Student

Meet Clément from Bordeaux, France. He studies at the University of Bordeaux and is currently writing a Ph.D. thesis in FOSS on oenology, which concerns the analysis of compounds in grapes and wine. Clément holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry and Oenology.

High degree of motivation
As Ph.D. student in FOSS, Clément will be spending an equal amount of time at FOSS’ headquarters and at the university in Bordeaux. Clément believes there are mainly two things that motivates him about FOSS: “Working at FOSS is a great opportunity. The WineScan instrument is well known throughout the wine world, and working for the company who developed it is very attractive. Besides, working for FOSS implies an international experience, something I always wanted to try”.

Many benefits
Clément hopes the Ph.D. collaboration with FOSS can give him deeper insights into the field of oenology along with improved scientific skills in industrial research. Clément has always been attracted by a Ph.D. degree but not interested in too much theoretical work. He explains: “I wanted to work on an applied project, and FOSS was the perfect company for that”.

The right timing
After Clément’s Master’s degree, he worked a few months as a technician for grape and wine analysis in FOSS’ French subsidiary. When searching for a new job, he eventually became aware of the Ph.D. project by a former professor at the university. After interviews in Denmark and France, Clément was appointed the project. “I think it was all about timing – they needed someone with chemistry and oenology skills, and I turned out to be a good fit”, Clément states.
