What’s next in the meat industry?

Innovation, automation, digitalization, and sustainable solutions. If you couldn’t visit IFFA this year, here are a few insights about technologies, innovations, and the newest trends shown at the world’s leading meat technology trade fair.

IFFA 2022 trend report: The world’s leading meat technology trade fair, offers insights into the newest innovations and developments in the industry covering the whole market for processing, packaging, and selling of meat and alternative proteins. If you missed the event, here are a few insights about technologies, innovations, and the newest trends shown at IFFA this year.

Innovation, automation, digitalization, and sustainable solutions. As we finally got to meet up in person, it was clear that the meat scene is more dynamic than ever. With 860 exhibitors from 44 countries presenting their developments of the last 3 years in process and packaging of meat products, ingredients for modern food, and innovations for sale, Mess Frankfurt offered a great platform for innovation and networking.

For the first time, IFFA expanded its product nomenclature and was also presenting technologies and solutions for plant-based meat substitutes and alternative proteins. 200 exhibitors offered products for the production of meat alternatives and FOSS was no exception show-casting the latest analytical technologies for process control of both meat and plant-based products.

Speaking with Poul Erik Simonsen, Head of Meat Segment at FOSS he explains: “Today, the availability of reliable analytical data is increasingly essential in ensuring sustainable use of valuable raw materials and consistent end quality of both meat and meat-alternative products. We have had our latest analytical technology on show at the FOSS stand at IFFA, demonstrating solutions for testing the many diverse raw materials and for controlling the production process for consistency end quality and it has attracted great interest.” he says “As something new, we also brought our FoodScan™ 2 and NIRS™ DS3 for testing plant-based products. The plant-based industry is in constant and rapid development and more consumers are turning to plant-based products these days.” Poul Erik explains “It can be challenging to create new business opportunities while also improving the production process and quality of the product and the raw material does not always give the same final result. Therefore, it is important to track key parameters like protein, moisture, and fat in all materials from raw to processed products and it has been great to show our new plant-based solution at IFFA this year.”

Together with FOSS being present at a FOSS stand, the analytical solutions were on display at leading companies for food processing technology. Poul Erik explains “Our MeatMaster™ II was on display as part of a fully automated processing line at some of the biggest players of processing equipment for the meat industry like Seydelmann, Laska, and Velati. Automation, digitalization, and sustainability have truly been on this year’s agenda and I think, these topics will stay on top of the agenda for the coming years as both producers and consumers become more focused on sustainability and the necessity of using every part of the raw materials.” Poul Erik concludes.
