Join our R&D department

We are looking for an ambitious and highly skilled optics or photonics scientist or engineer to drive the development of future analytical instruments for food analysis.

Your responsibility will be to develop and implement current and future optical hardware platforms - taking the technology from the lab environment to full-scale production. Specifically you will focus on our near infrared based solutions. The responsibility includes the technical overview of the complete measuring system obtained from a complete and detailed knowledge of the path from sample to finished result and the interfaces to the rest of the instrument. A key to succeeding is the ability to plan, coordinate and communicate results to the project members and stakeholders.

Your tasks will span experimental work, measurements, simulations and design. This is done in close collaboration with data scientists, mechanical and electrical engineers, software development, university partners and other departments outside R&D. One of the initial tasks will be the participation as work package leader in a collaboration project with the Technical University of Denmark and industry partners on future in-line analytical instruments for food processing (NEXUS).

You will be become part of the Spectroscopy team in the Technology department of R&D. The team is responsible for innovation, development and support of the measuring systems of FOSS’ product based on either FT-IR, NIR, X-ray and computer vision technology. Together, the teams in Technology hold a high level of experience and competence within optics, physics, electronics, biochemistry and microbiology. We strive to deliver solutions performing to the edge the technology with world leading relation between performance, cost, footprint and reliability.

About you

You have a M.Sc. degree in engineering, physics or similar and most likely a Ph.D. You have proven results working with experimental optics and spectroscopy, and preferably experience with a number of the following topics:

  • Near infrared spectroscopy and optical systems including spectrometers, detectors and electronics.
  • Optical simulations and design in e.g. Zemax.
  • Data analysis in e.g. MatLab.
  • Instrument development and experience or interest in project management.

People describe you as structured, innovative and self-driven, yet you value a strong team and the effort to share knowledge. Your record of accomplishment shows an excellent ability to understand complex systems and to work systematically with troubleshooting incl. designing and performing experiments. Further, you have a curious mind, thrive on challenges and can integrate the work from many engineering disciplines. If you recognize yourself in the above description, we look forward to hearing from you!

We offer

We offer a challenging job in an international, dynamic and innovative organization. We are market leaders within our field and very proud of the results we deliver. Innovation is the foundation for FOSS´ success and we therefore have a strong focus on R&D. You will be a member of a team where we respect one another, work closely together and apply each other´s competences in the daily work. We make room for personal improvements and continuously strive at optimizing our work processes.
