The R&D Hardware department is responsible for developing mechanics and electronics for our analytical instruments and we have many exciting new projects in the pipeline that require world-class hardware solutions. We are looking for a colleague to head our new Mechanics department, where we have gathered all the mechanical competencies to ensure there is focus on new instruments as well as professional development with focus on mechanics. The Head of mechanics will take on the responsibility for both mechanical engineers and the technical assistants in our R&D:Hardware department. You must have a balanced interest and experience in mechanical development as well as people development in an agile context.

The R&D Hardware department comprises of more than 60 developers and makes up for about 1/4 of the R&D organization in FOSS - and we are growing.

The job

R&D Hardware department consist of a range of departments working in a professionally organized way. The team members work with the instrument project teams oriented around our market segment, but we also organize to utilize professional development and learnings as a professional department. As leader, you will be responsible for the mechanical department delivering solutions for these segments and instrument projects, as well as a small group of 5 technical assistants working with ECM’s, drawings, SAP etc. The team is highly skilled, working closely together with all other disciplines needed to develop our solutions.

Your primary role is to work with the team to design and deliver the functionality for some of our most complex solutions as well as drive the continuous agile improvements forward. This means a high focus on system uptime, robust mechanics within in combination with food products, but in some cases also involving chemical fluids or assays. This mean failsafe mechanics for not only the instrument, but also the environment in which the instrument is operated.

Your daily work will be at the FOSS Innovation Center in Hillerød Denmark, with 10-15 traveling days per year primarily to Hungary.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership experience with leading a larger department
• Experienced with agile development in a hardware context
• A genuine interest in instrument development
• Strong knowledge within mechanics to form the professional strategy and direction for the department
• A good people person who knows how to maximize the output value while keeping a fun and thriving work environment

Secondary Qualifications

• Additive manufacturing
• AutoDesk Inventor
• Experience with processes for evaluating customer cases

You must be an experienced leader as the team consist of 20 experienced developers.
