The Workshop Repair Technician applies knowledge of computer, networking, electronics, and mechanical principles in determining equipment faults and restoring equipment to operation. The Workshop Repair Technician will serve as a liaison between Operations, Design Engineering, and Field Services to influence the Manufacturability and Serviceability of FOSS products.

Primary duties include closure of Report Service Orders and Digital Service Orders in support of FOSS Digital Services. This entails logging into FOSS instrumentation remotely, assessing instrument reports, providing feedback to the customer, and completing the Service Order in a CRM system. Secondary duties include performing setup, diagnosis, repair, and testing of complex electro-mechanical instrumentation in a shop environment. Other activities will include providing telephone technical support to field personnel and customers. Occasional travel to customer sites may be required for the purpose of maintaining equipment and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Provide remote assistance to customers using remote connectivity services.
  • Inspect equipment returned for service and ensure proper registration in tracking systems.
  • Perform technical tasks based on written or verbal instructions.
  • Perform fault diagnosis and prepare cost estimates.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, calibration, testing or modification of hardware, fixtures, and software. 
  • Orders parts as required to complete repairs.
  • Perform quality checks and setup to prepare new and repaired instruments for delivery to customers.
  • Provide technical solutions to engineering.
  • Provide phone support to customers, both internal and external, and recommend action to be taken – order parts, service visit, etc.
  • Make suggested changes to inventory levels to management when discrepancies are noted.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by monitoring assigned repair activities and maintaining an appropriate level of communication with supervisor and customers.
  • Comply with safety standards, company policies, and business objectives.
  • Ability to read and understand Hazard Communication Safety Data Sheets (SDS), ability to understand proper applications of chemicals and general cleaning supplies, ability to frequently handle and properly dispose of these products.
  • Responsible for a clean and organized workspace.
  • Maintain accurate accounts of services performed and submit activity and expense reports using designated resources according to company and department policy and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of product and policy information through frequent review of company intranet and website portal.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A two-year technical degree with major coursework in electronics or military training in a related field.
  • Prior experience in field service or as an electronics bench technician is desired.
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 and Salesforce.
  • 2+ years of laboratory and/or field service experience.
  • Exposure to analytical equipment, laboratory environment, and/or instrument control software.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Operation of test equipment and computer systems.
  • Stamina to remain focused on tasks at hand until completed.
  • Attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Strength to lift and transport analytical instrumentation weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to travel by ground and air to customer sites <10% expected annually.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • As required by company safety policies.

Pay Range: $20 - $25 an hour.
