FOSS – a world-leading company within analytical instruments – is looking for an ambitious and highly skilled R&D engineer to develop analytical instruments for food analysis.

At FOSS, we are driven by a strong sense of purpose, and we hope you are too. A fast growing world population means that the global food production will have to increase by 60% by 2050 to meet the demand. We want to come up with smarter ways to make the best use of agricultural resources, and to help eliminate food waste. If that sounds like something you would like to get out of bed for every Monday morning, then read on.

The job

As R&D Engineer for flow cytometry development, your primary responsibility is to become an expert in the hardware aspects of measuring technologies within Biotechnology, such as flow cytometry.

In collaboration with an assay responsible, you will become responsible for the measuring system on a project, meaning that you must obtain complete and detailed knowledge of the path from sample to result. In your daily work, you will use this knowledge to engage in development projects from early phases of development until transfer to our Service and Production departments.

Tasks include taking the lead on controlling the flow system, troubleshooting on the instrument and planning of performance tests. The work is highly interdisciplinary, as you will be working closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, embedded software programmers, biochemists as well as with key stakeholders from other departments.

You will become a member of the Biotechnology team in the R&D department, which is responsible for innovation, development and support of FOSS’ biotechnological products, in particularly flow cytometry-based solutions. The nine members of the team hold a high level of experience and competence in optics, physics, microfluidics, biochemistry and microbiology.  We are an ambitious team but have an informal and humorous tone, and strive to deliver biotechnological solutions performing to the edge of technology and price.

You ideally come with a M.Sc. degree in engineering, physics or similar and preferably, a Ph.D. Experience with the following topics will be considered an advantage, but is not a prerequisite:

  • Hands-on experience with fluidic systems
  • Building and controlling experimental setups
  • Fluorescence detection techniques
  • Programming in any language
  • Data analysis in MatLab

Personal skills

People describe you as structured, innovative and self-driven, yet you value a strong team and the effort to share knowledge.

Your record of accomplishment shows an excellent ability to understand complex systems and to work systematically with troubleshooting. Furthermore, you have a curious mind, thrive on challenges and can integrate the work from many engineering disciplines.

Since FOSS is a global organization, it is important that you have very good English skills, both verbally and in writing

We offer

We offer you a job with excellent opportunities for professional development. You will have the opportunity to leave a significant mark on FOSS’ future technology and business opportunities.

The daily work takes place in an innovative and interdisciplinary environment. We believe that cooperation based on trust, open dialogue, clear objectives and good colleagues who help each other give motivation and job satisfaction. We want to motivate our employees to take responsibility and exert influence.
